About two months ago, I asked Oasis Audio if I could be a reviewer for their audiobooks. They accepted me, and I received Pearl Buck in China for review. I had read and reviewed Pearl of China by Anchee Min and wanted to read another book about this remarkable woman. So I was glad to get this book for review.
Sadly, I did not make it through the introduction of the audiobook. The author read the book, and I had a hard time listening because she had a monotone voice and sounded as though she was bored to death as she read her own book. I could not bring myself to listen any longer. Therefore, I cannot say any more about this book. I am glad I read Ms. Min's book, because if I had listened to this one first, I may not have tried the other. The subject of the book, Mrs. Buck, is an interesting person. But the authors differ greatly on their treatment of the subject. I do not recommend this book to anyone, especially the audio.
(I received this book from Oasis Audio for review purposes. I received no monetary compensation for this review. All opinions expressed are completely my own.)
Come back tomorrow and I will have a review on another Oasis audiobook, Missing Max. (I liked that one!)
