"You May Have Missed" Mondays

"You May Have Missed" Mondays is a meme where we share books that others may not have heard of, or perhaps ones that others haven't read. The only rule is that the books we share must have been published prior to 2009. If you have written a review of a pre-2009 book, or just want to tell us about one you have liked, please let us know in the comment section for this post.

The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (Hardcover)I often hear of a movie I want to see, but if there is a book that the movie is based on, I will try to read the book first. I don't often find the movie to be as good as the book (see this post), but in some cases, I enjoy both equally. Most of the time, however, the book is better, probably because of the detail involved that you just can't duplicate on the screen.

Sarah at Small World Reads gives a review of The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. If you would like to try the movie, click here to purchase on Amazon. I loved both the book and the movie. Be advised, though, that this one is a tear-jerker.

Eragon (Inheritance)I normally don't read fantasy, but when the movie Eragon was coming to the theaters, my son convinced me to read the book in preparation for going with him to see it. I did, and to my amazement, actually enjoyed it.

However, the movie was a disappointment. And all I heard for days was how bad most people thought the movie was. I don't think I'll read any more of the series, but this one is one I can recommend, especially if you like fantasy and dragons.

Now, I'd like to hear from you. Have you written a review of a book published prior to 2009? If so, please share it with us. Or, just tell us of one you have enjoyed. It does not have to be a recent read, just one you would recommend. I'd love to make my TBR list even longer than it already is, even though it is already way too long!

Well, last week I read Trustee from the Toolroom by Nevil Shute and reviewed Sister Carrie by Theodore Dreiser.

Most of the book I read are pre-2009 since I tend to enjoy the older books more and since I can't afford the new releases anyway.

Okay, so I DVR-ed The Boy in the Striped Pajamas because I already knew I'd be the only one to enjoy (is that the correct verb?) and watched it late at night. I was going to read the book anyway (which I probably still will).

The ending left my jaw on the floor.
And I had nobody to talk to about it! So - THANK YOU!

I looked back, and cannot believe I started reviewing books almost two years ago. I think this is the first one I ever posted on a blog (and it's on my non-book blog):

I actually tend to read a lot of older books, because I keep finding ones that look fantastic!

This week, I reviewed these pre-2009 books:

Forged by Fire by Sharon Draper

Avril Lavigne's Make 5 Wishes, Volume 1 by Camilla D'Errico

Spanking Shakespeare by Jake Wizner

Really, only the first and last ones were good, in different ways. Forged by Fire was very ... deep and profound, dealing with some serious issues (it won the Coretta Scott award), and Spanking Shakespeare was just hilarious!
